The PENGUIn Team will investigate in depth, from Antarctica and nominally conjugate regions in the Arctic, the multi-scale electrodynamic system that comprises the space environment of Planet Earth. Four science topics, key components of the challenges outlined in the Decadal Survey, are important to the investigations in this proposal: substorms, polar cap physics, cusp phenomena, and radiation belt dynamics. Cutting-edge science on these critical topics will be accomplished by deploying state-of-the-art instruments strategically and in unprecedented quantity in the Antarctic.
The Antarctic Space Sciences website seeks to bring together resources and information related to natural phenomena occurring in the Earth`s atmosphere, ionosphere, and magnetosphere. The central aim is to improve collaboration and cooperation among research teams with similar goals. The broad goal is to improve understanding of the mechanisms which couple solar processes into the terrestrial environment.
