Current Works
- ALFALFA Data Reduction (To be my work all summer)
- Helping with some of the telescope work in Siena College Asteroid Monitoring (whose current PC name is SienaCAM)
- Building the Φ6 Lounge into its to-be awesome state
- Getting to Japan for the Fall Semester (Me working this summer = $ for plane tickets)
- Breaking 1,000 lines in Flash Tetris (yet to have done it)
- Becoming the highest level legit Beginner in Maple Story (more on this in my random section)
Notes
- ALFALFA work coming along well, albeit a bit slow at times.
- The telescope seems to be a wee bit troublesome, but once that's figured out it'll run great.
Progress:
- (*=Current Project)
- All the way through the four grids we had to reduce.
- Wrote code to convert RA (right ascention) and Dec (declination) to degrees. (It proved to be much more complex than could ever be needed, but I am very content with it, mostly because I beat MatLab).
- *Now working on interpreting the data we found to get the mass of the galaxies (Which I believe requires a sub-list!)
- *Writing a program in Python/Matlab to convert the flux and distance of the galaxies observed into the mass of the same galaxies.
Useful Links
- Here's the link to the ALFALFA workshop at Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico, which Patti Carroll and I were a part of: ALFALFA Workshop.
- You wanna do data reduction? Well if you have that unbelievably crazy urge (or if I lose the bookmark ^_^') here's the link: ALFALFA IDL Stuff
- The Disney World for astronomers: Arecibo Observatory (Which is also the background for this page). This is where the ALFALFA surveys are done using the ALFA receiver. Also, the ALFALFA workshop in January was carried out here, much to the excitement (and sleep deprivation) of its undergrad student participants.
Random Stuff
- Time to get to know my evil side a little better.
- MMORPG of choice: Maple Story. It's 2-D, extremely repetitive, and yet as addicting as Coffee. Here's a link to the game: Maple Global Site. My goal is level 73 and I'm now up to 53. Can I do it? We will eventually find out.
- Here's a link to the best version of
Tetris I have found on the web (Hey, we all need a break from the matrix, erm, code). My high score is a little over 2,500,000* (2.5 million- *Done on June 13th), my best number of lines is in the mid-900's (~940-950), it takes me about 45 minutes of playing Tetris to reach my own personal high scores, and have been on the top ten of a few websites (Facebook is one of them): Flash Tetris. And yes, I am the man at Tetris.
