Alfalfa Survey MKW 10
Work:
The Arecibo Legacy Fast Alfa (AlFalfa) survey is working on creating a catalog of significant HI detections. We will be using this data to observed the MKW 10 galaxy cluster with intentions to figure out how being in a group environment effects the gas within that cluster.
Notes:
Reduced Alfalfa data by using IDL to identify HI sources within four Grids.
Wrote Matlab code to further interpret data and match HI source coordinates to optical counterparts.
Calculated HI masses for all radio detections.
Continuing to learn Python programming language.
Classifying SDSS speetroscopic member into a Hubble type.
Making master catalog with all sources(radio/optical) that are part of the cluster redshift.
Working on calculating steller mass...issues with formulas.
Fromulas:
Recessional Velocity = Hubble's Constant x Distance
HI mass = 2.36E5 x Distance^2 x HI line flux
